Mexican Tamale Making Event
Join us online on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. and learn to make Mexican Tamales with Lucia and Maya!
Here is the list of ingredients you will need. Please let us know if you need help acquiring any of the ingredients.
1 bowl
A steamer that can fit all your tamales
2 cups of Maseca Corn Flour or Bob's Red Mill · Corn
¾ cup of vegetable oil (the original recipe calls for pork lard... but, we’ll let you decide)
½ tsp. of salt
¾ tsp. of baking powder
2 ½ cups of vegetable or chicken broth
1 bag of corn husks (you can also use fresh corn leaves, parchment paper or aluminum foil). If you use corn husks, please make sure you have separated and soaked them before we start. They need to be soft enough to fold.
Prepare in advance the filling of your choosing. Here are some ideas (but you can also get creative):
Refried black beans with slices of cheese
Tofu
Any kind of cooked and seasoned chicken, pork, or red meat
Or salty leftovers
Toppings (you decide what you want to put on top of your tamales once they are cooked):
Salsa
Pico de gallo
Guacamole
Sour cream

All your child (and you) need to participate is a somewhat open space and comfortable clothes and shoes. (I also understand that dancing on camera can be hard for some children/adults so you are invited to join in at any level that you are comfortable).
If you or you and your child are interested in hosting a workshop on any topic please sign up HERE or contact Meredith, meredithrosedepol@gmail.com with any questions.
